Ts’elghwadi/Tsulquate
Tsulquate (Ts’elghwadi) is the name of our village and reserve in Port Hardy. We have lived here since 1964 when our two Nations were amalgamated and relocated to Tsulquate from our homelands at Gigakh in Takush Harbour and the village of Ba’as at Blunden Harbour.
Tsulquate is the seat of our government and the centre for administration of services to the membership such as, health, education, the management of lands and resources, economic development and the negotiation of treaties. We are governed by an elected Chief and Council and by the teaching and guidance of our hereditary chiefs, matriarchs and respected elders. The population of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nation is approximately 1100 with 56% living at Tsulquate. |
